historyteachers

“History for Music Lovers” adapts famous historical events and figures to famous songs. It began in the early 2000?s, started by two teachers of ancient/Medieval history (Amy Burvall and Herb Mahelona) living in Hawaii who wanted to find creative ways to introduce course content. The project went on hiatus as the two creators moved on to different teaching jobs and different cities/islands and schools. They decided to make the videos available to the public (unmonetized) in case they might prove useful to other history teachers. The worldwide pandemic of 2020 allowed them to revisit this project, upscale older footage, complete unfinished projects and contemplate new ones as the pandemic has greatly facilitated distance collaboration. Hopefully these videos will spark discussion, questions, debate, and help teachers engage their students in the fascinating, endlessly complex drama of human history.
